THE MUSANA CAMP MYSTERY

Image
Normally a lot of places I travel to doesn't get me off guard, I always have an instinct of what to expect. But this time around everything was a little mysterious and different. Fahad a photographer friend who comes from Mukono calls me three weeks before this whole story began. he was like, hey Engel I and my friends SOLAGRATIA STUDIOS Geoffrey(story by pictures) and cliff (pixel Inca media/little rock safari) plan on making a trip to Musana camps mukono for some nature and community photoshoots and i would really love you to be a part of the trip. my answer is simple as you already know" am down bro",I asked what I had to carry, he told me yourself, and your outdoor gears. I perfectly knew this was plot and it is going to go down, but the downside is I had never been to Musana camps and surprises makes me anxious, I couldn't process what i  would find in three weeks to come. This might sound a little off because it is not your usual/everyday location, a hidden ge...

THE BUTTERFLY TRIP

Image
I believe by now a lot of the travel folks are asking what's the "butterfly trip?". well the best way to understand it is by me rewinding how it all started. I had just left eastern Uganda to go back home(north) for what I would call a short holiday, two days into the holiday I get a phone call from this young lady called Grace Atuk, a medical doctor at lacor referral hospital in Gulu. We met once through a mutual friend a couple of months back and during that meet up we had a limited conversation about what we do and a hint about our perception of life. Grace tells me she needed a three day trip to just cool off the work overload and sleepless nights she has been commiting to. In her exact words she just wanted to be close to the water. And me being a tourism and nature doctor haha(kidding) I had to make a diagnosis of what would feed her soul positively, so my suggestion was jinja since I had a spot that would work remarkably well for her .Grace is the hardworking type...

RAIN IN THE WILD

Simple days, simple times.30th April to 2nd may was one of the simple times, Yet again one of my friends call me a week before 30th and she was like. Hey Engel,"i got this friend from Norway who would love to experience Uganda to its depth and i was thinking of a safari to Murchison's falls national park." ahhh, we all know my answer by now, SAY NO MORE, yes something better than that. Okay! let me teleport you guys to 30th.So i actually planned the entire trip and sent her the itenary, she was positive and on my side i had to do the necessary arrangement's. So on the actual day (30th) morning, it was kind of drizzling and I had to connect to my safari driver by around 7;30 am, we all know about the Kampala hustles, jam and bustles but anyways we made it to their pick up point though some minutes late. The journey to Murchison's from Kampala is approximately 6 hours, we had all the take away nyamachoma in the mix, the journey was smooth and nice, a little bump on ...

THE ARUU FALL INCIDENT

Just like any ordinary day, I receive what we call the ordinary phone call from a friend. The friend (Walter)  is a Rotarian (a rotary club member) of Gulu. He was like, hey Engelbert,we have this mega fellowship event at Aruu falls and we were thinking you could provide us with 150 camping tents. Hahaha, let me remind you and this is a honest reminder.  All our camping tents had been sold out for that specific date, it was a sweet deal, and me being a reliable go getter, the adventure hustler in me was like, Walter say  no more, I got you loud and clear. I was low key chilling bearing in mind that it could be one of those businesses that always come around but takes long to mature because of the client sourcing for better options, so no pressure. To my dismay a few days later Walter called asking for my bank account details so that he could make a 50% deposit, and boom minutes later there is this bank deposit notification. Damn, man have you ever been in a  un...
THE SURPRISE  KAYAK FESTIVAL . I wouldn't want to use the word "I" simply because its always a "we". we are a company and group of nature lovers who travel most times together. This time around I made a solo travel from iganga to jinja town (both are neighboring towns in the eastern part of Uganda) , the journey is about 40 minutes on a no traffic jam day, transport is affordable (4,000 Ugandan shillings), it was a Saturday and I had directed the journey to the Nile river explorers, a usual spot we chill at. The Nile river explorer resort is just by the famous river Nile, they do all sorts of water activities from kayaking, water puddling, white water rafting, tubing, with nice cuisines and exotic continental foods. I just went for the burger and beer, I like to call it B2B,its really an amazing feel when you bite the burger and sip the cold Nile beer while the Nile sunset hits your fore head( its a breathtaking moment). So as I approached the gate, the gentle...
